H-I-S-T-O-R-Y
In December 1943, interested men from Elizabeth
Township formed a committee to provide some kind of fire protection for the
community of Brickerville.
In July 1946, the committee built three cisterns,
sponsored by the Baron Stiegel Lions Club.
A charter was granted in June 1947 to Brickerville Fire
Company No. 1. Monthly meetings were held in James Enck's garage.
The first pumper, a new 1947 International fire truck,
was purchased.
In April 1948, the Ladies' Auxiliary was organized.
Construction of the first new fire hall was started in
November 1953 on a tract of land purchased from Charles Enck.
In September 1960, the first tank truck - a used 1952
Studebaker - was purchased.
The first ambulance, a used 1961 Buick, was purchased in
1969.
This volunteer fire company has come a long way over the
years. Equipment and training are continually upgraded, attempting to
provide the community with the best fire, vehicle rescue and ambulance services
possible.
